Now that we are in January, the “start button” has been pressed and we are working towards our goals for the new year. I would like to continue a thought that I began last month in the Connection Newsletter about goal setting, and introduce ministry systems.
Here are a few things to know about ministry goals and ministry systems:
•Don’t be afraid to dream big. Remember that everyone doesn’t have to agree with you for your dream to come true.
•Don’t be afraid to hit the “rewind button”. Sometimes we need to try and try again until we succeed. God has called, equipped, and given you an assignment to complete. Do not be intimidated if you have to start over more than once.
•Don’t confuse goals with systems. Goals are usually for setting the direction, while systems are more about “how” you plan to accomplish your goals. You need both! For example: if you are a writer, your goal is to write a book. Part of the system is the writing schedule you plan to follow that will get you the finished product of a published book. For us in ministry, our goal is the picture of the finished product, while our system is the blueprint of how to get there.
In the coming months, we will continue to talk more about ministry systems. I believe that having an effective system will give you the ability to reach more people for Christ. The Bible is loaded with examples of ministry systems that we can adopt and use for His purpose.
Here are a few things I’ve learned about ministry systems:
•The most effective ministry systems are usually simple. They are easier to remember and easier to implement.
•Ministry systems do not happen automatically. They have to be determined and worked weekly.
•Ministry systems can be one of your best friends in ministry and should never become your worse enemy.
•Ministry systems vary often because of cultural needs, but the goal remains the same.
It is all about making a difference in the lives of others!
It is my prayer for you that 2020 is a prosperous year for you.
“May He grant you according to your heart’s desire and fulfill all your purpose” – Psalms 20:4 NLT.
May you know the system that works best for you. If you work systems in ministry, I am confident that the systems will work for you.
You are loved and appreciated. Thank you for your faithfulness to serve!
